Ice, Ice Baby

You might have heard about the snow and ice that swept the midwest. Well, our

pastor made a good analogy between the ice and sin during the service today. Though

very beautiful at times (see below), sin can be very destructive (largespread power-outages,

trees split askew, lines down, etc.).

S w i t z e r l a n d

Better late than never. This the theme of Monique and my belated honeymoon experience. In October when we wed we only had 2 days off after our wedding before the responsibilities of the world required our return to our day-to-day lives. (Before you bemoan the life of physicians too much, I must say it was actually the tough expectations upon our nations teachers that cut our first few days away as a married couple short.)

But we schemed and planned and eventually took the plunge across the big drink to drink in the sights 'n' sounds of Switzerland. It was a bit ambitious in hindsight--even in foresight--as Monique had never been out of the country before we wed, didn't enjoy flying, and as it turned out we were in transit for nigh on 30 hours on our way over.

5 Airports

3 Flights

3 Trains

1 Bus ...... to arrive in Interlocken.

And that without luggage for another 48 + hours. Better late than never, because specialty narrow shoes for hiking/walking came in handy the rest of the trip; as did the razor and clothing.

For created beauty viewed from terra firma, Switzerland is pretty much tops. That was the name of our self-guided tour package --- tops of Switzerland. Snow-capped mountaintops all around with little towns bordering on the lakes. Clean and natural. Well instead of a thousand other words, here are a few pictures.

Mack the Knife

Just saw Quiz Show, and can't get Mack the Knife off the brain. It plays twice in the movie, but has been a long-time favorite. I hear that one of my uncles does a smash-up version of it if you buy him enough drinks at the pub.

[ I can't get the Lyle Lovitt "Moritat" version off iTunes tonight, but here is a sampling for my friends of the elusive doctor. ]
